Day 8: What Does it Mean To You?

It’s day 8 dear reader, and the month is stretching out in front of me. On one hand, it feels like there is so much time that I will never be able to write a complete novel. I feel like I don’t have enough material in my head to write 50,000. Then I start thinking about all the things that are going on this month and I think how will I have enough time to fit it all in.

One of the advantages of NaNoWriMo is that it will help teach you time management like nothing else will. Everyone’s schedule is different, but my schedule for the month consists of my daily full-time job with lots of meetings and office celebrations that require preparation. The Thanksgiving holiday which will include a small road trip to spend time with family. Decorating for Christmas, and just the usual day to day things of home life.

I was listening to Bryan Cohen this morning on the Sell More Books Show Podcast discuss various ways to manage your writing time with a hectic schedule. There was some discussion of writing in fifteen-minute sprints or thirty minutes here and there. I am open to trying new things. But, I the fifteen-minute things seems like it would be a huge challenge, how do you get in and out of your headspace for writing that quickly? I’m willing to try it. But, seems like that would be the hardest part is shifting gears that quickly.

Today’s total was 1, 058. A little short of my 2,000-word goal. But, it has been a weird day. I feel like I’m in a parallel universe today where nothing makes sense. So I’m happy with the 1,058.

I wish you peace and love.
