Day 2 NaNoWriMo Update

It’s day two of NaNo and things are going pretty well. I’m over 4,000 words so I’m happy about that. After being a self-proclaimed night owl. I have to confess I went to be early last night, like 9:00pm which is so unusual for me. But, I was awake at 5:30am. So I thought I’d give some early morning writing a try. It was a small success. I managed only about 530 words in 30 minutes. Apparently, I have to take this in baby steps, just getting my eyes open at 5:30 in the morning will have to be victory enough, and I should push it by trying to actually function on any kind of intellectual level.

However, by lunchtime, I was fully awake and ready to go. Day jobs sort of force you awake by a respectable hour.  So I closed my office door and grabbed my laptop.

*Quick side note* On my way to work this morning I was leaving to the Self Publishing Formula with Mark Dawson and James Blatch, and was listening to Mark talk about his experiment with dictation and how he quickly doubled his word count. I have tried dictation before. Bought a fancy little recorder and everything. But had a terrible experience with Dragon so I gave up on it pretty quickly. Plus, I do not recommend trying dictation for the first time while driving on the interstate. So I thought maybe I should try it again. I am recently switched from a Windows laptop back to my MacBook Air. And when I opened Scrivener I noticed it has a dictation feature.

So I told you all of that to tell you that while on my lunch break I decided to give dictation on Scrivener a try. It is pretty simple to use, but the accuracy is a bit off. And I couldn’t let it just sit there without correcting it so I found myself correcting when I should have been writing. So I turned off the dictation and went back to typing. But despite the lack of accuracy from the dictation. I was otherwise encouraged by the ease of use. And I am going to run an update to my Scrivener (after Nano) and see if that improves anything. In the meantime, I will try my external microphone and see if that helps. Because, sitting alone in a quiet office, I could see how I could really increase my word count. But, still 2,201 words today mostly typed at lunch. isn’t too bad. So, I’m a little ahead of the game in case I fall asleep early again tonight.

If you’re reading this and participating in Nano, drop me a line and say hello. My screen name on Nano is Milissa.

Okay, now I need to go listen to audio files for Gray’s Requiem so I can have that out for you soon!

More updates tomorrow.
