Happy NaNoWriMo Eve!

Some are celebrating Halloween, others All Hallows Eve, Beggar’s Night, Samhain or Carmel Apple Day. But, there are a fair few of us who are celebrating NaNoWriMo Eve, with as much apprehension as visitors to a haunted house. For tomorrow starts our goal of writing 50,000 words in 30 days. Luckily there isn’t anyone going to be editing our final November product. The idea is to let your ideas and your fingers fly!

NaNoWriMo has evolved over the years, originally and some traditionalist still honor the idea of no work is done before November 1st. No drafting, outlining or writing of any kind. I have allowed myself the luxury of doing a little research before the official start date, as I am planning on writing a space opera I wanted to research engines and power sources for my ship. There are a lot of ideas out there from algae to dilithium crystals. But, I wanted something original and a little easier to explain. I realize you, dear reader, are prepared to accept somethings on faith, but I needed a place to start and I was thinking that an ion thruster was interesting. So I have been reading up on the technology. Also, I will admit I’ve been toying with character names for the captain and crew. I have their backstories in my head, but those tend to flesh out as I write so we will see where that leads us.

Also, the people who bring us this joyous time of year also provide educational programs for children to help them harness their creativity. I am also raising money towards that cause all this month while I write. You can check out my donations page over at http://www.facebook.com/milissalstory.

Also, stay tuned because I am going to blog daily about my progress through the month as I head towards my goal of 50K.
